Vertical lifts

Walking, running, climbing are routine activities for us and we do not think much about accomplishing them. It is only when we see physically handicapped or very old people who find it difficult to walk, do we give a thought to how lucky we are to be gifted with a healthy and fit body. The tasks that we find routine and easy are very difficult and challenging for these people. Most of these people use wheelchairs to move about and their mobility is restricted as a result of this confinement. Wheel chair lifts also called as vertical lifts or vertical platform lifts are the best solution for such people that help them in going about their daily lives as easily as possible, given their physical limitations.

These lifts give them an opportunity to lead a more fulfilling life where they are not dependent on other people. It helps the wheelchair bound people to lower or elevate themselves without leaving the wheelchair. The wheelchair makes accessible only certain areas but with lifts these people can move about and access many areas instead of feeling bound to one place. They can be installed in the home or in residential buildings and other public areas and make a significant difference in not only the life of the physically challenged people but also in the life of the family of these people.

The lifts are called vertical platform lifts since they come with a platform where the user can remain seated while being lifted. The lifts with high sidewalls are more popular since they can be used in homes as well as outside. Usually these lifts can reach heights of up to 13 meters and up to 6 different levels. There are remote operated models for those with less mobile hands.

Vertical lifts run with the help of hydraulic power or electricity. The electric ones are expensive and come with backup batteries. There are different models of vertical platform lifts and you can choose the one which best suits your needs. The models can be customized too.

An enclosed model has walls enclosing the occupant and is great for outdoors where the safety of the occupant is of prime importance. There is no need to worry about weather conditions with this type of wheel chair lift. A shaft way model is similar to a regular elevator and fits easily within any wall. It is useful in homes and public places. A stage model has only a platform and is used to access shorter heights. These vertical lifts can be found on stage where they are used as an entry and exit vehicle or as an elevator. An opal model is similar to an enclosed vertical platform lift but has an open ceiling.

Some features of wheel chair lifts are emergency battery lowering, automatic battery recharging system, gear type hydraulic pump, battery backed alarm, safety edges and remote control for smooth start and stop.

Vertical lifts offer many safety options such as emergency button for stopping the lifts. It also has large buttons with large lettering so that people with impaired vision can make use of them too. It has a push button for each floor and also an alarm and emergency stop. It also has a firm and comfortable grip which enables the elderly and physically disabled to have greater mobility.
